Simple Decoration Tips for Fall

We decorate our home around the seasons. If you’d visited us last week you’d find us hanging string lights with fall leaves, swapping our front door summer floral wreath for a pumpkin shaped door hanging that says “welcome” and decorating our fire-place mantel with paper pumpkins that we painted together a for the last few years.

Keeping a beautiful home have been a tradition for me before I had my kids. We had always rented all the places we called home and put efforts to transform our home into a place of calm and peace. You don’t have to own a house to make it beautiful. You don’t need a big house to call it home. And you certainly don’t need a lot of money to have a clean and beautiful home.

Why is it important to have a beautiful home?

Because Allah(swt) is Al Jameel and He(swt) loves beauty. That’s enough reason to take time to keep a house clean, organized and beautiful since you will be rewarded to make concerted efforts to align your life to an attribute of Allah(swt).

Focusing on your home keeps your concentration on something where you can make a difference. You learn to pay attention where you can make a difference. And this feeling empowers you to do more good things.

Having a beautiful home adds a positive vibe to your environment. Your shift your focus from the chaos around you to something that provides you comfort and security.

5 Simple ways to decorate your home for fall-

Use what you have

Using what you already is the simplest way to decorate your home for any season. I have been collecting seasonal items over the years and store them in a box until the season is here. Some of my favorite ways to give my home a face lift is to use string lights, change table and kitchen linens and adorn our fire place mantel with what we have already etc.

Decorate with natural elements

I like to use toxin free, reusable decoration pieces that are well made so I can use them over and over again. You can make a centerpiece for your living room table by collecting acorns, pressed leaves in gorgeous colors, dried flowers, twigs etc on a tray. If you like to use candles, look for natural candles that are toxin free for better quality air in your home.

Rearrange your furniture

Rearranging your furniture is a no cost way to improve the look of any room. Re assessing what you already have with fresh eyes is greener, more frugal, and usually more effective than buying something new. It also gives you a chance to clean under those big furniture pieces and work on the carpet divots. Win win ;).

Make somethings with your kids

Invite your kids to make something together that you can use to decorate your home. We painted these paper pumpkins years ago and still use them on our mantel. You can make paper banners, paper lanterns or go on a scavenger hunt as a family to collect natural elements that you can use for your center piece.

Create a book nook

Fall (and Winter) is the best time to cuddle with your kids with a book. You can create a cozy place in any corner of a room or even behind a sofa in your living room. All you need is a blanket, a few books and the willingness to have a memorable, fun time with your kids.

I hope you’re inspired to add beautiful fall touches to your home. If you’re busy and feel overwhelmed, do the best you can and take small steps to make your home a beautiful space. Trust me, a beautiful home uplifts everyone’s spirit and will allow you to keep calm and to do more to please Al Jameel (swt) insha Allah.
